Album Tracks getting a re-work on this little beauty are: «Detroit in me » remixed by Patrice Scott & «Stubnitz» remixed by Memory Foundation. Up first, Patrice Scott strips the “Got a little bit o’ Detroit in me” vocal away from the “Detroit in Me” original in order to dazzle the listener with endless flurries of melodic and rhythmic cross-currents. Making good on the Detroit connection, Scott amplifies the tune’s Motor City vibe with lavish helpings of synthesizers, claps, and hi-hats and amps up its hard-swinging acid-funk groove in the process. Memory Foundation’s B-side version of “Stubnitz” locks solidly into a tight mechano-house pulse at the outset, which frees up all kinds of room for tenor sax player Andreas Pasternack to unleash his high-spirited wail. The treatments sound so good, one can’t resist pulling out the original double album to sample its deep house sound all over again.A collectors Item, coming as transparent blue limited 7 for those who show appreciation for both the deep and having it on wax.

Not much information is available about Librah aside from the fact that the outfit hails from Sweden and that they released the critically acclaimed deep house twelve-inch “2BWU” on Parkwest in 2012, that brought the Deep House EP of the year for those true Loft heads and lucky clouds. “Out of step”, “Timeless” music. Librah’s follow up release on Yore Records is a sure sign of quality, however, and, true enough, My Love is 4ever is what every House Set needs. The perfect balance between deepness and punch. The release splits two Deep House tracks across its twelve-inch, transparent-coloured vinyl sides (limited to 200 copies), and supplements them with a digital-only bonus mix of the title cut. The material’s mood is largely one of joy and uplift. The silky smooth title track quickly locks into its snappy house groove at the outset, and then pulls back the curtains to let the sunlight pour in. A bright theme imbues the skipping pulse with flavour, and the track rolls along for seven quietly jubilant minutes, its carefree spirit bolstered by a dreamlike vocal refrain and luscious synthesizer textures. Unspooling at a slightly slower BPM, the B-side’s “Gravity” opens with a sampled voiceover of grave character (When you live in a poor neighborhood, you’re living in an area where you have to have poor schools / When you have poor schools, you have poor teachers.) before fixating on the tunes insistently swinging and hypnotic instrumental design. The digital mix of “My Love is 4ever” packs a punch, too, especially when it pounds a bit harder than the original and sweetens the deal with a funky bass part and a twinkly keyboard riff. Despite being obviously similar to the original, the bonus version offers an irresistibly funky and infectious riff on the original, so much so it’s easy to picture the dancefloor going wild.

Andy Vaz’s Straight Vacationing, his first full-length artist album, since the 2006 release of Repetitive Moments Last Forever…, registers as less a straight-up collection of dance-floor burners and more of a variety pack that mixes club tracks and full-fledged house songs. Listeners hungry for just ordinary 4/4 throw-downs will not entirely get their share of those, but they’ll also get a whole lot more on this dynamic and well-rounded set of eight album tracks and that is exploring House Music not just as a simple one way street, but give you a very personal view of the music we call House. Straight Vacationing dives into the genre in all it’s rich variety: From deep melodic, to early Chicago influenced Acid House, Jacking-Tricks to Disco-type grooves and last but not least excursions into Bizzaro World, with a vaz typical almost psychedelic experimental-edged Sound, it’s all there.

The album perks up the moment the first track, “Detroit In Me,” appears and when its acidy bass line percolates so determinedly alongside a female vocal motif (“I just need to put a little Detroit in Me), leaving little doubt as to the style in question, but Vaz polishes the track’s Detroit surfaces to a mirror-like sheen. A little bit similar to what Maceo Parker might sound like soloing over a funky Detroit-styled base, a sax spreads his creamy playing all over “Stubnitz” and in so doing bolsters the album’s already soulful character. The album’s poppiest moment arrives in “Just Another Round,” whose hooks Vaz powers with a lead bass line and sweetens with a chirping female vocal. The funky-as-hell bass playing is rooted in the grand Larry Graham-and-Bootsy Collins tradition, and the music’s cold sweat, not to mention the honk of a saxophone, might remind listeners of a certain age of the J.B.’s, James Brown’s ‘70s band. On the experimental tip there’s “Fukuoka Liquid,” a bubbly, acid-techno shape-shifter featuring a hammering groove overlaid with synth smears, and “Worlds Collide,” an exercise in jacking acid-house – old school all the way.

Tony Ollivierra’s issued a generous number of singles and EPs under the Ibex moniker on Rushhour, Planet E, Yore, and his own Ibex Music, and now follows up his 2010 Yore outing, Meltdown, with Absolution, though this time, for whatever reason, under his birth name. No matter: Ollivierra’s music sounds great, whether issued under his real name or an alias, and Absolution is no exception.

The infectious title cut gets things moving with a bass-powered blend of claps and funky rhythms before chunky house chords and silken synth figures add to the track’s multi-layered splendour. A jazzier dimension rises to the surface of “Quick Release” when the tune’s churning hi-hats are joined by royally swinging electric piano playing and luscious synth pads. “Phase Down” opts for a purer deep house sound in its focus on kick drums, claps, and futuristic synths, though the track proves that Ollivierra’s naturally funky side can’t help but emerge, here as it does elsewhere. Syncopated rhythms and electric pianos emerge one final time during the wide-screen “Find My Way” in such a way that a balance is struck between synth-heavy techno and jazz fusion.

Absolution is an unfussy clubcentric release that finds Ollivierra getting down to business quickly in four body-moving cuts that liberally draw on house, jazz, and even Latin traditions. The presumed goal isn’t genre re-invention, but something more modest, more in line with Ollivierra simply wanting to put his formidable skills to work to show the kind of polished dance music he’s capable of creating and has built his reputation upon.

On Orlando Britain’s follow-up to his Yore debut, Beneath the Surface, the UK producer laid down the new release’s material in West London, but its heart and soul lies an ocean away, as the “Motor City” track title suggests; Britain’s also got a soft spot for classic house and techno, as evidenced by the title he’s given to the thirty-minute EP. His first EP had sold out in seconds and this one, coming in 2 different coloured vinyl versions is expected to disappear even quicker. First very limited pressing comes as white vinyl.

To the music: The silky smooth opener “Contemplate” is certainly capable of inducing a contemplative state, armed as it is with a sparkling flow of warm Rhodes melodies, crisp house beats, and creamy analogue synthesizers. Here and elsewhere, Britain dresses up his soulful material with a plentitude of percussive and vocal touches (a rather indecipherable voiceover in “Motor City” and soulful exhortations in “It Ain’t Over”). “Motor City” digs into its dizzying swirl of thudding bass lines and stepping beats with all the passion and joy one would expect, while the rapturous closer “It Ain’t Over” drapes a syncopated keyboard theme and light-streaming synth chords over a slamming house pulse to marvelous effect. The EP’s effervescent vibe makes its luscious material all the more appealing, and so too do tight jacking grooves that are more likely to soothe than agitate. Another instant deep house classic.

Morning Factory – New Memories EP

Morning Factory’s second Yore EP pretty much picks up where its first, Forgotten Moments, left off earlier this year. Once again we’ve got a hard-grooving four-tracker from Netherlands duo Jean-Pierre van der Leeuw and Jozef Lemmens (aka Loves Got Me High and Enzovoort) that’s a match for anything else in the Yore discography. Opener “Maiden Voyage” is classic Morning Factory, an ever-so-tight house jam that twists and turns beatifically for eight rapturous minutes. A parade of glorious sounds and euphoric build-ups, the track’s filled with syncopated drum breaks, chunky chords, and synthetic strings, with all of it powered by an effervescent groove and even a dash of acid. Darker undercurrents run through “Last March of the Ants” when church organ chords stretch themselves across a windswept, broken beat shuffle. Despite the gothic atmsopherics, the tune’s house boogie still goes deep when a jazzy vibe subtly creeps in and the stepping groove grows in forcefulness. Creamy organ sounds also course through “Radioshow,” which takes a nostalgic glance backward (“those days are gone now…”) to a golden age where something like “Green Onions” had a chance of getting played on the radio. A saxophone licks at the tune’s flames as its driving funk pulse kicks into gear, but the EP’s most body-shaking cut arrives last in the form of “Cherish,” a charging tech-house hellraiser animated by broiling bass lines and shotgun claps and sweetened with Rhodes kisses. If there’s one word that characterizes Morning Factory’s material it’s intoxicating.

Tony Ollivierra aka Ibex, who is no stranger at all to the world of Detroit House music, known for his outstanding releases on Carl Craigs « Planet E « or his hot gems on 3rd Ear and Rushhour, returns in full effect on our 26th release. Here he brings us four tracks, so deep (and yet grooving without a doubt), unique and full of class, that it still leaves us simply speechless. The music on this EP is so rich and full of musical idea’s, like we haven’t heard it since a very long time. One can tell you need history and expertise behind to drop something like this and Ibex sure has what it takes. He’s been releasing high quality house music since early 2000 and has been touring as a DJ since the mid nineties, which all you can sence in his music. This is one of our personal favourite releases so far and we can only strongly recommend to get your copy while they last. Killer EP not to be missed and already a classic today!
